Which water filters are certified for both lead and PFAS?

Many filters say they "remove lead and PFAS". We looked each one up in the official certification listings on 20 October 2026 and again on 26–27 October 2026. This is what we found.

Evidence behind this site: 201 studies and official sources · 47 certification listings read · 26 documented incidents · last checked 30 October 2026 · corrections

Certified for both — confirmed on the official listing

"Certified" here means: a third-party certifier (IAPMO R&T or WQA) lists the exact model under NSF/ANSI 53 (or 58 for reverse osmosis) with a lead claim and a PFAS claim. We list the model numbers exactly as the certifier does. Buy the model, not the brand.

Checked on the certifiers' own listings on 20 October 2026; rows marked * were added after a second read on 26–27 October 2026. "File" is the certifier's listing number.

"PFOA/PFOS" and "Total PFAS" are two different claims a certifier can list under NSF/ANSI 53. We show the wording each listing uses. Capacity is the gallons the listing gives before the filter must be replaced.

Popular filters that did not make the list

Watch for "NSF/ANSI 372" on a box. It certifies that the filter's own parts are lead-free. It says nothing about removing lead from your water.

Check any filter yourself in two minutes

  1. Find the exact model number on the box or product page (not just the brand).
  2. Search it on the certifier named on the box: IAPMO R&T listings, WQA certified products or NSF listings.
  3. In the listing, look for NSF/ANSI 53 (or 58 for reverse osmosis) and the words "Lead" and "PFOA/PFOS" or "Total PFAS" next to your model.
  4. No listing, or only "tested to" / "meets" wording? Then it is a claim, not a certification.

Do you even need one?

Your water utility publishes a free yearly water quality report (Consumer Confidence Report). If it shows no lead concern and no PFAS, and your home has no lead service line or old lead plumbing, buying nothing is a fine answer. The report covers the water at the street; lead can still come from your own pipes (EPA). If it does, pick from the table above and run the numbers for your household — filters are a yearly cost, not a one-time one.
